2.7m long, Jarrah and Australian Oak
This piece was produced in collaboration with fellow Industrial Designer, Andrew Whittaker for an exhibtion themed around 'Travel'.
We developed 'Skies Unlimited' as a tribute to Australian pilot Nancy Bird Walton.
We found online, a set of blueprints for a WW1 timber propeller which were then modelled on a CAD program. From there we produced templates for the various cross sections that were then cut from alternate layers of Australian Jarrah and Oak and then sculpted to create this lucious form.
'Commemorating Australia's unique aviation history and Nancy Bird-Walton, OBE 1915-2009 founder of the Australian Women Pilots Association whose motto was 'Skies Unlimited'.
